History of Kolkata re written....

If you have known so far that Job Charnock founded the city of Kolkata (Calcutta) in 1690 then your information is totally wrong. It was only a myth about Job Charnock created by a few British historians along with some Bengali intellectuals who wanted to portray that if the British would not have come here, perhaps Kolkata would have remained a marshy waste land. How funny!! ! Did they forget that the Indian Civilization is much older than the British? Swami Vivekananda once commented that when the Indian students were learning Ramayana and Mahabharata, the British were still in the state of apes….. So how could the British found Kolkata?
Kolkata has a civilization as old as 2nd Century B.C. and perhaps much older. Don’t get amazed… It’s according to the latest findings by the Archaeological Survey of India.

Also The Kolkata High Court has rejected the name of Job Charnock as the city’s founder. The historical Judgement came in May 2003 when the Sabarna Roy Choudhury Paribar Parishd and nine intellectuals of the city filed a Public Interest Litigation challenging the history regarding Job Charnock and the birth of Kolkata. The Hon’ble High Court constituted a five member expert committee headed by historian Late Sri Nemai Sadhan Basu to investigate the matter. The other members were Sri Sushil Chaudhury, Sri Barun De, Sri Pradip Sinha and Sri Arun Dasgupta. and at last truth was established. The Committee submitted their Report in which they clearly dismissed the claim that Charnock founded Kolkata and its birthday is 24 th of August 1690.

Therefore please keep it in your mind that Kolkata is not a British creation and Job Charnock is not its founder. So visit Kolkata to witness Bengali history, heritage and culture.
